The Global Health Institute (GHI) is seeking a student intern to support our office operations and education, research and outreach activities.  Position will be approximately 8-12 hours/week during the school year with more hours available in over summer break if available, and can be somewhat flexible based on class schedule.  Shifts will be mainly during regular business hours (8am-5pm, M-F), except to help with occasional evening events.  Starting rate of pay is $10/hour.


  • Help staff the central campus GHI office in the Medical Sciences Center (1300 University Ave), answering phone, responding to email and walk-in inquiries
  • Help prepare forms, documents, and spreadsheets; assist with filing, copying, scanning
  • Order office supplies and help keep the supply room organized
  • Assist with scheduling meetings, making room reservations, and taking notes at meetings; help manage Director’s calendar
  • Assist with planning and staffing GHI signature events– i.e. monthly seminar series, Global Health Symposium, graduation (spring) and alumni (fall) celebrations, YALI Mandela Washington Fellowship, etc.
  • Assist with hosting occasional international visitors to campus
  • Support communication & marketing team – help with social media and website management, event communications, mailing list management, etc.
  • Other misc. support for administrative and financial staff as needed



  • Experience working in a business office environment preferred
  • Fluent in MS Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook), Google Drive and Box file-sharing applications
  • Prefer experience using Learn@UW, Canvas, Pexip, Qualtrics

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to prioritize work
  • Customer service and professional communication skills
  • Tech savvy, especially with social media.  Technical trouble-shooting skills a plus!
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn new tasks
  • Maturity and ability to work with people from different backgrounds and foreign countries


GHI is a cross-campus unit, working with faculty, staff, and students from a diverse spectrum of disciplines at UW-Madison, throughout Wisconsin and across the globe.  We help provide global health field experiences for undergrads and graduate/professional students at UW-Madison, and we administer an internal grant program to support global health efforts of faculty, staff, and graduate students across campus, fostering the Wisconsin Idea locally and globally.
