Title: WCER Fellows Training Project Assistant

50% PA position

            We seek a candidate to aid with program outreach, publicity, and social media. Good interpersonal skills and strong organizational abilities are essential. Experience with simple web development tools and social media platforms preferred. Applicants must be able to write clearly and professionally and to design communications for a generalist audience. Experience working with underrepresented minority groups preferred.


Principal duties:

            The program manager will work with Faculty Program Coordinators to develop and manage the Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER) Fellows program at UW-Madison. The purpose of the WCER Fellows program is to help successfully recruit and support high quality graduate students who will contribute to the diversity of the UW-Madison School of Education and the professoriate. In addition to providing student funding, the WCER Fellows program will also aim to (a) help promote a sense of belonging and support among fellows and (b) provide extensive professional development opportunities. Toward these ends, program manager responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Tracking student progress. Each year the WCER Fellows Program will enroll cohorts of four incoming fellows, so that the program will support 16 students in steady state. For each fellow, the program manager will help track: development and maintenance of a 5-year individual development plan, engagement in faculty-guided research, and participation in the WCER Fellow Summer Preparatory Program and academic year pro-seminar.
  2. Developing and maintaining program outreach and communication activities. The program manager will design written and digital materials to help increase the profile of the program for potential applicants and other potential stakeholders.
  3. Aiding in national recruitment efforts, including working with faculty to develop and implement strategies for recruiting diverse applicants and producing printed and online recruitment materials.
  4. Assisting in the annual process of soliciting nominations for WCER Fellows and notifying fellows and departments who are selected.
  5. Aiding with the administration and maintenance of the WCER Fellow Summer Preparatory Program and academic year pro-seminar.
  6. Tracking program expenditures and tracking student participation in appointments outside of the WCER Fellows program.
  7. Providing general administrative support for the WCER Fellows faculty coordinators.
