Are you interested in better understanding how people learn? If so, our Learning Sciences lab is recruiting undergraduate research assistants to work on our project.


For this position we are specifically looking for a student with background in technology or/ and education, and experience in working with camera / sound equipment, such as camcorders and digital audio recorders. The students who have strong interest in working with a large group of faculty, researchers, graduate and undergraduate students on a NSF funded educational research project are encouraged to apply. Having experience in online survey/test creation and data collection and storing (through Qualtrics or any other online survey system) would be a plus.


The job responsibilities include the following:

  • Set up, operate and maintain audio and video equipment including microphones, sound speakers, cameras, tripods and other recording equipment
  • Occasionally record classroom audio and video data
  • Uploading and downloading video and audio data from camera/recorders
  • Storing and keeping record of video and audio data files for the projects
  • Occasionally transporting a variety of equipment and supplies (e.g. cameras, stands, microphones, video, laptop computers, surge protectors, cables, etc.) to schools for the purpose of collecting classroom audio and video data
  • Preparing/Helping prepare Online Survey/Test and collecting data online

By working in our lab group, you can gain valuable experience in:
- Working as a part of the team of NSF research grants;

- Gaining experience in using technology in education research

-Gaining experience in online survey/test preparation and data collection 

-Closely collaborating with faculty, researchers, graduate students, and other undergraduates;

-Helping the research team with other organizational and administrative tasks as needed.


Students can also work for credit on independent research projects.

We are looking for self-motivated and responsible students with an interest in education research. This position would be from Fall 2017 and would have the potential to extend throughout the 2017-2018 academic year and the summer of 2018.  We are looking for students who can commit to working approximately 10 hours per week.
