Position: Two graduate student hourly positions for the WIDA at the Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER). These positions are expected to start in July and will continue through the school year based upon satisfactory performance. These positions are 10 hours per week. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.


Project Description: WIDA designs and implements proficiency standards and assessment for Grade K-12 students who are English language learners (ELLs). The WIDA psychometrics team reviews, evaluates, and conducts research using WIDA assessment data for operational administration, validity and accountability purposes.



  • Assist with activities to support psychometric projects, including data entry, data clean-up, and data preparation. 
  • Assist a psychometrician with technical report by creating, organizing, and formatting tables and automating the reporting processes.
  • Assist a psychometrician with a data banking project by collecting item-related information and entering item variables.
  • Support measurement and statistical analysis for multiple projects under the supervision of a psychometrician.
  • Support analyses and authoring brief psychometric reports under the supervision of a psychometrician.
  • Conduct literature review for multiple research projects.


Required Skills:

  • Graduate student in the area of educational measurement and statistics, educational psychology, quantitative psychology, statistics or related field.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in measurement theory and statistics of psychological assessments.  
  • Experience in statistical software (e.g., SAS, R, WINSTEPS, FLEXMIRT)
  • Ability to work cooperatively and complete tasks under supervision.
  • Ability to complete tasks independently and in a timely fashion.
  • Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and the ability to prioritize and effectively manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint


Preferred Skills:

  • Fluent with SAS — experience with data analysis using SAS and SAS macro languages (Or R Cran package for IRT models).
  • Flexible with tasks and timelines.
