CREECA Office Assistant

Academic Year 2017-18

The Center for Russia, East Europe, and Central Asia at UW-Madison (CREECA) seeks an energetic, responsible, and organized student hourly worker to serve as an office assistant starting fall 2017.  All applicants must be students (undergraduate or graduate) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison; applications from incoming UW-Madison students will also be considered. Students should commit to work 15 hours per week for the 2017-2018 academic year.  To apply, please send a cover letter (detailing your background and qualifications), a copy of your resume, and your fall 2017 class schedule to Jennifer Tishler, CREECA Associate Director ( Please include names and contact information of two references. The Office Assistant will:

-Assist on all aspects of the CREECA lecture series, including postering, publicity, A/V set-up, and recording;

-Assist with updates to the CREECA Website (running Wordpress) and social media sites (Facebook, Twitter);

-Assist with CREECA events, some of which could occur outside of regular office hours (such as major and certificate fairs, teacher workshops, outreach events), on an as-needed basis;

-Assist with data gathering and data management for grant proposals and reports;

-Perform other clerical/office tasks (filing, preparing mailings, answering phones, etc.) at the discretion of the Associate Director.

-Knowledge of Word, Excel, Adobe, Wordpress required. Experience with social media required. Experience and/or willingness to learn other computer programs highly desirable.

-The ideal candidate will have previous coursework in the languages and/or area studies of Russia, East Europe, and/or Central Asia

-Starting rate: $9.75-$10.50 per hour, depending on experience. Opportunities for pay raise after the first semester of employment, contingent on job performance.
