OPENING
We are seeking one graduate student to work 20 hours per week as a Project Assistant (PA)(50%) during the fall and spring semesters. Hiring department is Population Health Sciences in the School of Medicine and Public Health. Office location is off campus in Middleton.  Own transportation preferred.  Bus line not always available.  
 
Study and Position Description
The Survey of the Health of Wisconsin (SHOW) is a longitudinal cohort study exploring the determinants of health in a representative sample of Wisconsin residents. This project examines health outcomes in relation to behavioral, genetic, and environmental risk factors and physical measurements. This position works closely with the biostatistician and database administrator to perform data processing projects.
 
Description of Work
The main duty of the PA will be to create a version tracking database. SHOW is currently collecting data using its second version of questionnaires. Plans are being made to implement a third version of questionnaires in 2010. The PA will also assist the database administrator by creating instance and adding character variables from separate text files to the database. Other possible duties include creating codebooks and assisting in the development of a website for a public use database.
 
Requirements
  • Previous experience working with Access database, Oracle or MS SQL database, familiar with SQL language
  • Basic to intermediate programming language C, or C#
  • Interest in data processing
  • Attention to details
 
Desired
  • Previous programming experience with ODBC and real time operations
  • Experience with Windows 2000 server operating systems
  • Website development experience
  • Working knowledge of SAS
